Science

Our rationale for teaching science:

Science is a body of knowledge built up through experimental testing of ideas. Science is also methodology, a practical way of finding reliable answers to questions we may ask about the world around us. Science in our school is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working that enable them to make sense of the world in which they live through investigation, as well as using and applying process skills.

The teaching of Science at Key Stage 1 has four main areas.

These are:

- Working Scientifically

- Animals including humans

- Plants

-Everyday Materials and

- Seasonal changes (Year1)

Our role is to teach scientific enquiry through the contexts of the main content areas and wherever possible to make connections and cross curricular links with other subjects.

Children in the foundation stage – Nursery and the reception classes are taught the science elements of the foundation stage document through the Early Years Learning Curriculum: Understanding the World.
