Music is an integral part of children’s learning and development. Through our music curriculum we strive to embed a love and excitement for all aspects of music whether it be singing, listening and responding, or composing and performing.
We have a large bank of songs which enables us to learn songs from other cultures as well as our own. Weekly singing assemblies teach children new and seasonal songs; sometimes with a performance in mind and other times just for enjoyment.
We are well resourced with non-pitched percussion instruments and chime bars.
Year 1 children have the opportunity to take part in the Advent concert at Bath Abbey. Year 2 children sing at local sheltered housing leading up to Christmas.
All children in Main school receive regular teaching from a music specialist during PPA time. Year 1 children all learn the ocarina and Year 2 children learn the recorder.
Year 2 have the chance to learn the ukulele as a lunch time club.
Year 2 children who wish to learn the violin can have music lessons provided by a peripatetic music teacher from BANES music service.
We provide opportunities for children to hear live music. Parents, past pupils and a local secondary school have played a wide variety of instruments for us during Wednesday morning assemblies.
